Universal unveils new Exorcist chapter: Believer returns with terrifying horror

Written by:

In a thrilling announcement that sent chills down the spines of horror fans worldwide, Universal revealed the return of “The Exorcist” franchise with a brand-new installment titled “Believer.” Fifty years after the iconic and terrifying original film by William Friedkin, this new chapter is set to bring back the spine-tingling horror that made the original a timeless classic.

“Believer” boasts an impressive cast, with Ellen Burstyn reprising her role as Chris MacNeil, the desperate mother from the first film. The movie is directed by David Gordon Green, known for successfully resurrecting the “Halloween” franchise in recent years.

The excitement doesn’t stop there, as Universal also announced that a sequel, “The Exorcist: Deceiver,” is already in the works and is scheduled to hit theaters on April 18, 2025. These two films are just the beginning of a planned “Exorcist” trilogy, promising even more haunting tales to come.

The plot of “The Exorcist: Believer” centers around Victor Fielding (played by Leslie Odom, Jr.), a grieving father who has raised his daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett), on his own after the tragic death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake. When Angela and her friend Katherine (Olivia Marcum) inexplicably vanish in the woods and return three days later, covered in horrifying Satanic markings and displaying disturbing behavior, Victor seeks help from Chris MacNeil, the only person who has encountered such evil before.

The trailer for “Believer” showcases a chilling narrative, introducing not one but two possessed girls whose demonic possession follows a supposed kidnapping. Ellen Burstyn’s character, Chris MacNeil, appears determined to save the girls, drawing from her own experience with a possessed daughter in the original film. However, as the disturbing footage shows, the true nature of the evil they face remains uncertain.

Unlike the previous sequels, “Believer” takes a fresh approach, straying from established chronology, similar to how Green’s “Halloween” trilogy rebooted the beloved slasher franchise. Fans can expect a thrilling and intense experience as they revisit the demonic horrors that once haunted their nightmares.

Mark your calendars for October 13, as “The Exorcist: Believer” is set to hit theaters, promising to terrify audiences and reignite the spine-chilling legacy of the franchise. Brace yourselves for an unforgettable journey into the depths of evil and the battle for souls as the “Exorcist” saga continues to captivate and haunt generations.
