From Small Town Dreams to Big-Screen Triumph: Director P Mahesh Babu’s Miss Shetty Mr. Polishetty Saga

In the heart of Bhimavaram, a small town with big dreams, director P Mahesh Babu’s journey for the film industry began. From his early days of writing stories during college to his directorial debut with “Rara Krishnaiah,” Mahesh proved his talent as a director. After a brief hiatus, he returns with “Miss Shetty Mr. Polishetty,” a family entertainer set for a Pan India release. In a recent media interaction, Mahesh Babu shared his insights into the film’s creation.

“I’ve always had a curiosity about the filmmaking process,” Mahesh Babu reflects. “Rara Krishnaiah” marked his first venture into the world of cinema, but it wasn’t without its challenges. “Some projects started and stopped unexpectedly,” he admits. However, Mahesh didn’t let these setbacks deter his creative spirit. He continued writing stories during these breaks, and it was during this time that the idea for “Miss Shetty Mr. Polishetty” was born.

The story, which revolves around the characters played by Naveen Polishetty and Anushka, was initially conceived by one of Anushka’s friends. “When Anushka heard the story, I was initially concerned that my script might lean towards being too adult,” Mahesh Babu recalls. “But she loved it, and that’s when UV Creations came into the picture.”

UV Creations, known for backing major productions, saw potential in Mahesh Babu’s vision and invested heavily in the project. “Anushka has done films like ‘Baahubali’ and ‘Bhagmathi,’ but she was also eager for a lighter, entertaining story,” Mahesh Babu shares. “UV Creations believed in my vision, and that was a turning point for us.”

Mahesh’s collaboration with Naveen Polishetty also played a crucial role in the film’s journey. “I narrated the story to Naveen in 2019, and after some consideration, he agreed,” he says. Shooting commenced in February 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted their plans. Naveen found himself stuck in the US due to promotional commitments, and lockdowns halted production. The delays, though frustrating, allowed the team to focus on post-production and ensure a high-quality final product.

“Miss Shetty Mr. Polishetty” contains bold content without crossing into adult territory, thanks to the credibility of its lead actors. The film received a UA certificate from the censor board, and the team was praised for their storytelling prowess. Anushka, initially apprehensive about the story, ultimately embraced it with an open mind.

Mahesh Babu emphasizes the importance of actors like Anushka and Naveen Polishetty who are willing to embrace new narratives. “We write scripts that challenge societal norms,” he says. “While the film provides entertainment, it also carries underlying morals, though not always delivered directly.”

The film’s title, “Miss Shetty Mr. Polishetty,” reflects its central characters and their unique journey. “The story revolves around a woman who chooses motherhood over marriage,” explains Mahesh Babu. “To achieve this, she seeks the help of a younger man, leading to a series of emotional events.” The trailer hints at these emotional bonds, extending beyond typical romantic relationships.

The film’s universal appeal has led to a multi-lingual release across South Indian languages, as well as a Hindi version. Mahesh Babu reveals that even megastar Chiranjeevi praised the film. “Chiranjeevi called and appreciated our work,” he says. “It’s heartening to know that he noticed the little details we put into the story.”

As “Miss Shetty Mr. Polishetty” gears up for its Pan India release, director P Mahesh Babu’s journey from Bhimavaram to the big screen serves as an inspiring tale of persistence, creativity, and the magic of storytelling. The film promises to deliver not only entertainment but also a fresh perspective on relationships and life choices. Don’t miss the opportunity to embark on this cinematic journey when it hits the screens on September 7th.
