On Friday, renowned filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri unveiled the gripping trailer of his upcoming series titled “The Kashmir Files Unreported.” Set to premiere on ZEE5, the seven-part series promises to delve deep into the historical, ethnical, and geopolitical details surrounding the tragic events that led to the massacre and mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley during the 1990s. Agnihotri’s earlier 2022 movie, “The Kashmir Files,” provided a foundation for this series, drawing on research, archival footage, and interviews conducted during its making.
The streaming service, ZEE5, expressed that “The Kashmir Files Unreported” is an impactful project that sheds light on the circumstances, mistakes, and crimes that unfolded during those dark times. The series features insightful conversations with historians, experts, real-life victims, and their families, ensuring a comprehensive and authentic portrayal of the tragic events.
Describing the series as a “type of national archive,” Vivek Agnihotri emphasized its significance as a documentation of historical importance for future generations. He stated that the team left no stone unturned during their research, engaging with various sources such as authorities in Kashmir, Parliament records, archives, books, newspapers, international documentaries, and videos. Moreover, they collaborated with journalists who had covered the events in Kashmir during that period.
In a press statement, Agnihotri shared, “With thorough examination, we put all common elements together and made a full series. People who will watch this, they will understand the perpetrators behind the genocide and terrorism in Kashmir. They will learn from that tragedy.”
“The Kashmir Files,” the filmmaker’s earlier movie, garnered diverse reactions upon its release in March 2022, with some lauding its eye-opening nature, while others deemed it a propaganda film. In response to these varied perspectives, Agnihotri felt it crucial to present the research and interviews in their purest and rawest form, offering audiences an unfiltered glimpse into the truth.
